Writing
I’ve always loved to write. Sometimes I write short stories, sometimes flash fiction. I currently write two family newsletters. I particularly enjoy novels, but I can never bring myself to write that much. I get bored with it too quickly and I believe that’s because I edit as I write. Some writers I’ve spoken with say they write this way, also, while others say they edit only after they have completed their work. I’m sure there are others who are somewhere in between. My way isn’t working for me if I want to write a novel.
With that in mind I began searching on-line for tips on staying focused while writing a novel and found a wonderful site. I do believe their take on novel writing will help me. Go visit NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. Participants will write 50,000 words between November 1, 2008 and November 30, 2008. Wow! Fifty Thousand words?! The key is to not worry about the editing. That will be very difficult for me. Even though there are times when I miss things, I may miss a space, put in an incorrect letter or worse, I do skim over what I’m writing as I write it, editing the entire work completely after I’ve finished.
So, wish me luck. Beginning November 1st I will be writing around 1,667 words every day! (Not to mention anything else I may be writing at the time!)
Better yet, join me! Go to the site and sign up. Be sure to contact me after you sign up. Misery loves company! ![]()
