This Is Probably Why It’s Called a One Word CHALLENGE

Happy New Year!

The other week I mentioned that I knew what my One Word was for 2016.  And that I had more than ONE One Word.  Which, seems to me, defeats the purpose!

But to pick out one little word that you want to focus on for an entire year is, well….a challenge.

Honestly, I thought it was BREATHE.  That’s the message I kept getting from that still, small voice in my heart.  Or it might have been just the voice in my head.  🙂  But for a momma who was feeling stress and pressure, I kept feeling the reminder to take deep, calming breaths.  (Anyone else hold their breath when they’re stressed?  It’s not very helpful!)

The other word that I kept….well, hearing…is BALANCE.  I had let some things get out of balance in my work/personal/business life, and everything felt like it toppled in on me.

As I thought and prayed on this, I thought I would choose JOY because I wanted the reminder to look for the things that are good and lovely and worthy of praise like Paul instructs us in Philippians 4:8.  {On a side-note, I am in the process of reading The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry – it’s very good if you’re looking for ways to have a more positive outlook.}  While Joy is a good word (and a good concept to focus on), I had chosen it a few years ago for my word for the year….I felt like it was close, but not quite it.

More reflection, more prayer, and then I came across another blogger (honestly, I forget who it was now) who said that her word last year was blessed.  I saw that, and the word that fired out of my brain is BLESSINGS.

For 2016, I want to focus on:

  • Blessing others.
  • Being a blessing.
  • Receiving the blessings that come my way.
  • NOTICING the blessings that surround me.

There you have it.   As much as I need to remember to breathe, to keep balance, to have and look for joy, I am aiming to focus on all the blessings!   {And if you’re wondering, the One Word I chose for my business is IGNITE!}

Have you chosen a word to represent your 2016?
