Laundry Tip: Sometimes the Simple Things Give You an AHA! Moment

I posted a long time ago about how I had to lower my expectations about help with the laundry.  Seriously, I promise not to cringe when you fold things a different way than I do, or secretly refold it when you’re not looking!

I usually wash everyone’s laundry together, and then heap it up into giant baskets.

No, really, that’s it.

Were you waiting for more?

Anyway, I’ve been trying to get better about folding and putting away the clothes afterward.  Well, at LEAST putting them away!

Obviously, the best method for each person is one that they will actually DO.  I’ve found that for us, using 4 smaller laundry baskets, and sorting/folding the clothes into each person’s basket seems to work best.  That way, everyone can put away their own laundry when I’m done.

I realized as I was writing this post that some people would probably ask why we don’t just do separate loads to begin with.  For whatever reason, that doesn’t work for me right now.  In my head, it makes more sense to create a full load with whoever’s clothes are dirty, and sort it out after the fact.

Clothes in separate baskets have a higher probability of getting put away in the proper places in this house!

Do you have any helpful laundry tips?  I’d love to hear them!

  1. The only suggestion that I might pass on is “Lingerie Bags”. Have at least one if not two for everyone. One for underwear and the other for socks. You will find that this will help with the sorting before and after. I actually crocheted a few strands of colored yarn onto my daughters, so that it was easy in the sorting. It isn’t perfect, but even if half of those items make it into the bags it helps
