On the Road to Fit Mamahood

I  have a love-hate relationship with fitness.  My fitness track record is sporadic, at best.

It turns out that I’m too wimpy for Jillian Michaels.  I’ve tried her Ripped in 30, and I can’t make it past the first week.  🙁

When I had my first child, I dropped weight VERY quickly.  I could eat ALL DAY LONG (and I was HUNGRY all day long!), and not gain anything.  Must have been a combination of all-the-time-nursing and carrying my chunky monkey around everywhere ~ he hated to be put down!

Once I stopped nursing him, my metabolism definitely slowed down.

When my second was born, the baby weight didn’t melt off the way that it did the first time.

Then I would find myself stress eating cookie after cookie (after cookie, after cookie…) and just about any sweets that I could get my hands on.

As you can imagine, that didn’t really do anything positive for my weight.  😉

But truly, I’ve been sick, exhausted or BOTH for so long now.  It’s hard to keep up with the kids and everything else on top of everything else.

Having been diagnosed (finally!) with hypothyroidism has helped things because the meds seem to regulate my fatigue/slow metabolism somewhat. (and guess what?  An underactive thyroid can cause depression, as well!)

I’ve tried different diets over the years, but I have a new plan that I’ve been sticking to a bit better lately.

See, I’ve been skinny before, and I’ve decided that that’s not what I want for myself now.  I want to be FIT.  I want to be able to keep up with my kiddos and feel better overall.

Finally I’ve found some things that seem to be working (hint: some of it is mindset!), and I would like to share that with you in my next post.

In the meantime, what techniques have you found that work for you?  Have you always been fit, or do you struggle with it too?
