The other night we were headed home from my Dad’s birthday celebration, and we happened upon our town’s Fireworks display.
Although we can hear the fireworks from our house, we haven’t been to a display in….years! Before my son was born, I believe. (He’ll be 7 at the end of this month!)
By this time, both kids had fallen asleep. Despite the fact that they’ve had A LOT of late nights lately, we chose to wake up the boy and let him watch the fireworks with us. (My husband didn’t think that the little one would be able to fall back to sleep so easily, so we opted to let her sleep through them).
My boy and I got out and laid on our bellies on the grass as we watched the fireworks, and I got a little teary remembering the TRUE reason that we have these magnificent displays every year. What it must have felt and looked like all those years ago – “And the rockets’ red glare….the bombs bursting in air….”
While I hope and I pray that you all have a safe and happy Independence day, I also pray that your hearts soften as you remember the reason for fireworks at this time of the year.
I am so very thankful for all the men and women that have served this amazing country over the years, and who are currently serving today to keep this country free.
I am also thankful to their families as they pray for and support these dedicated soldiers.
Happy Independence Day, from our family to yours!
