You might have seen my 12 {Semi-}Quiet Activities for Kids posts from the other week. I have 3 more to add to that list – I hope this helps you!
- Paper Airplanes.
The day after I wrote that post, we went to visit a friend while she had her kiddos at work with her. The kids played together to give her some uninterrupted working time. While we were there, my friend gave us a stack of sheets to make paper airplanes with.
At first, the kids would fly them off of this large ramp-thing. But the fun REALLY started when my boy got his stuck in a tree. The plane was low enough that I could have reached it for him, but he was determined to get it out by flying ANOTHER paper airplane at it.
It turns out that I’m very good at flying a plane at the first one, and having it gently tuck itself right under the stuck plane. Truly.
At one point, we had 6 or 7 planes stuck in that tree. They had a ton of fun with it, and it kept them occupied for about an hour! (I got pretty good at making airplanes that day, too!) - Digging for Treasure.
Bury beads, pretty stones, or other small-ish “treasures” in the sandbox. Give kids rakes, shovels, scoops, or just let them use their hands to dig for and uncover their buried treasures.

- Rock Sculptures.
A friend of mine told me about this fantastic idea. Let the kids take smallish rocks (and sticks and whatever else their imaginations lead them to) and build sculptures with them. My boy started doing this today, and it kept him very busy – he has quite the rock city going on out there right now! Here are just a few:
Fun, right?
Feel free to pin these pics if you’d like!

Did they use something to hold the rocks together?
No, ma’am. They’re just stacked like blocks! =)
My kids love these activities. Especially the rock sculpture. But they didn't know it was sculpture. They just thought they were moving rocks around. LOL
