Getting the Wiggles Out of Wiggly Kids

Last week when I was busy learning great homeschooling and parenting tips at the Great Homeschool Convention, my family was busy falling in love with a sweet dog.  A puppy, to be exact.

On Father’s Day, they dragged me out to meet her and…..well, yeah.  I fell in love with her, too.  I had been campaigning for an older dog to add to our family dynamic, but hubby wasn’t going for it.  Little did I know, his heart was opening up to make room for a puppy.

So now I have 2 wiggly, active kiddos, and one sweet bouncing-off-the-wall puppy.

This birthed our new favorite game, “Chase the Snake“.  They invented this game purely by accident, but the kids and the dog love playing it, and I love that it wears everyone out!

How it’s played:

One kiddo holds a jump-rope at one end, and runs with it trailing along behind them.

Crazy doggy runs along to catch the “snake” while another kiddo holds onto the leash and tries to keep up.

My little one is learning to call for a time-out when she needs a break.  The puppy has that one down – she just flops down on the ground if she needs a rest!

There is much giggling and fun to be had with this impromptu game.

It’s easy for my little one (who is not as fast as my oldest or the puppy!) to take a tumble, but she’s also learning to fall and to pick herself back up again.

My oldest is practicing his listening skills because when his sister calls for a time-out, he has to stop where he is so she doesn’t bounce along behind the dog.  icon smile Getting the Wiggles Out of Wiggly Kids

What kinds of games do your kids play to get their wiggles out?
