Finding Joy In Depression {ebook & a giveaway for you}

Hey friends,

If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you’ll know that I’ve written a couple of posts about depression.

I’ll be honest with you.  I’m in it deep right now.  Between the depression and my thyroid not doing its job (and, of course, the two are connected), I have NO energy.   The kids are acting out, and I just want to say “do whatever you want.  I. am. DONE.”

I’m having trouble feeling God’s presence.  And I’m angry.  Oh, so angry.

Normally I don’t like announcing this to everyone…but #1, I feel strongly that I need to break the “code of silence” that surrounds depression, and #2, if I can help somebody by talking about my own suffering, then that’s what I want to do.

I am absolutely honored that Amanda Pelser from ThePelsers.com read one of my posts about depression…..and then asked me if I’d like to review her ebook.

Let me tell you, when I first started reading this book, I absolutely DEVOURED it.    Chapter 5, “What Does Depression Really Look Like?” had me nodding my head in agreement, and wanting to hug Amanda.  I get it.  I’ve been there.  I’m there right now!

I also love how she talks about Depression & Church….I haven’t talked very openly about depression in church with the exception of my Pastor (who also happens to be my boss), and my parents, of course.  Thankfully I haven’t dealt with the judgement of being a depressed Christian through my church.

Here is a peek at the chapters that you’ll find in this ebook:

  • What is Depression?
  • My Story: Seeking Help
  • The Rest of the Story: Facing Depression
  • Denial Didn’t Get Me Anywhere
  • What Does Depression Really Look Like?
  • Infertility – A Cause, a Symptom, or Both?
  • Medication and Natural Remedies
  • The Attitude of the Church
  • Know Your Triggers
  • Double Depression: Dealing with the Bad Days
  • Grief and Depression
  • The Family Connection
  • Find a Counselor and Some Good Friends
  • Routines and Organization Can Help
  • Get a Good Start on the Day
  • Eat Right and Get Moving
  • Chocolate and Coffee
  • Prayer and Bible Reading

Each chapter has a few quick questions to reflect on.

I’ll be completely honest with you.  I’ve known that this ebook was available for some time now, but for some reason I didn’t think I needed to read it.  Was it pride?  Maybe.  I don’t really know.

I’m so very glad I did read it – this book was a blessing to me, and I know that it can bless others as well.  Whether you personally suffer from depression or suspect that you might….or if you know somebody who may be depressed, get this book.  It’s a quick read, yet it is jam-packed with great information.
