We had a lot of false starts to our homeschooling day yesterday.
We tried Bible time, Spanish (which my 6-year-old told me just the day before that he was interested in pursuing)….I’ve actually forgotten all of the different things I tried to engage them in. They were just too distracted or otherwise uninterested. Usually, I roll with it, but yesterday I persisted. Boy, was it frustrating!
The problem was, when left to play on their own, they ended up fighting. EVERY. time. (The boy has gotten to where he starts pestering the little one when he’s bored.)
I finally put in a Veggie Tales dvd, and called it Bible time. Ugh!
Finally, after lunch, inspiration struck – science experiments!
Thanks to The Homeschool Scientist for the inspiration, and for letting me know about Hooked on Science‘s experiment of the week! (Trust me, you’re going to want to check out their Experiment Archive – it’s fantastic!)
We did the Baking Soda and Vinegar Explosion – FINALLY the kids were engaged! (we even had the kids from next door come running over to check out what we were doing!) Who doesn’t love exploding stuff, right?
I think I’m going to be working more experiments into our school time…..though I will tell you – I often cringe at the thought of experiments. My boy likes to run off ahead of me and make his OWN experiments…..sometimes it turns out to be pretty neat, but other times….yikes!
I actually have a few Science reviews that I will be doing here over the next few days, so I hope you’ll stick around.
Also, don’t forget to check out the two sites that I mentioned. They don’t know I’m sending you to them, or anything. I just like to promote sites that are helpful to us when I can.
