How was your day today?

With most people, my answer would probably be “good, thanks.  How was yours?”.  Sort of an automatic reaction.

With family members, it usually starts with “Ugh.”  and may be followed with “okay, I guess”, or a more honest (often negative) assessment of the day.  I mean, parenting is HARD.  And working part-time with two kids running around can be pretty darn tough, too.   Add into the mix depression, exhaustion related to an underactive thyroid, yadda, yadda….

Still……

I don’t often say that our day was fantastic.  (though lately, with the weather being what it is and being able to spend most of the day outside, we have had more fantastic days.)

As part of the Moms of MasterBooks Review team, I’m reading “Today Is Your Best Day” by Roy Lessin, Co-Founder of DaySpring. (swoon!  I love that site!)

The Intro is a poignant account written by Linda Ayers Turner Knorr, who was given this book as a gift along with her husband after he was diagnosed with cancer and told he had “three to six” left to live.  The couple read this devotional with each other every day….and managed to share this book with over 5000 others.

Sort of puts my “bad” day into perspective, doesn’t it?

In the devotion, Today Is Your Best Day Because of Faith (Part 1), Mr. Lessin tells us:

To walk by sight mean to evaluate our day by what we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and know in our minds.  To walk by sight means to allow the “reality” around us to impact our thoughts, our motivation, and our emotions.  A larger percentage of the “walk by sight” information that influences us in our day is negative.

There are 59 more devotions like this one….and it seems like every one I hit upon is relevant to me that day.

One of my favorite devotions (thus far) is on page #47, Because of Truth. I would quote the whole thing here, if I could….but don’t you just want to read it (the whole book, for that matter) for yourself? Know this, though:

  • When the lie says, “God is not interested in you,” the Truth says, “Cast all your cares upon Me, for I care for you.”
  • When the lie says, “God is against you,” the Truth says, “Because God is for you, no one can be against you.”
  • When the lie says, “How could God love someone like you?” the Truth says, “God loves you with an everlasting love.”

Isn’t that beautiful? EVERY day can be your BEST day, friends. Because of Faith, Because of Heaven, Because of God’s Plan…..Every day.

  1. Sounds like a perspective shift is in order for me too! I struggle with attitude. It SNOWED yesterday and today. Ugh! I have the thyroid struggle and adrenal problems especially after my last baby. But really, we have so much to be thankful for. I read this in my Bible this week, "Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness: let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit," (Is. 45:8a)
