Need Help Teaching #homeschool Math? {MathTacular DVD Review}

Math has never been my strongest subject.  My dad (who happens to be very good at math) would always tell me that I make it much harder than it needs to be.

I wouldn’t say that I fear teaching math at this level right now, but I do appreciate any help that I can get.  =)

I was recently contacted by a representative of MathTacular to review the Math DVD 1 with my kiddos.  This DVD teaches:

  • Number Recognition
  • Odd & Even/Pairs
  • Counting
  • Skip-counting
  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Comparisons
  • Position
  • Colors
  • Shapes & Geometry
  • Patterns
  • Money
  • Calendar
  • Telling Time
  • Graphs
  • Fractions
  • Measurement

There are multiple lessons for each topic, each addressing the math concept in a different way.

My kids LOVE learning math with the MathTacular DVD.    I thought this would be the type of video where we just watch one little part, stop it, and come back to it another time when they’re up for learning more.  That hasn’t been the case – they’ll sit through a whole bunch of the segments, and they’ll ask to watch more of them.

The age range for the Level 1 DVD is 4-7, but the concepts are presented in such an easy-to-understand (and fun!) way, that my 3-year-old can grasp some of them.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that my 6-year-old is a bright but VERY wiggly boy.  This is one to file away for passing the wiggly-boy test.  =)
