Do You Know How to Get to Heaven?

I know that some of you already knows the answer to this (for which I am very glad!), but it occurs to me that others of you might not know, so I’m going to lay it out for you.

I’m feeling an urgency to spread this good news….because we never know when it might be too late!

Here’s the deal.  We were all born with a sinful nature.  The Bible says that the penalty for sin is death.  Always.

But God, our Creator, and our Father in Heaven loves us.  Yes, he loves YOU.  No, it doesn’t matter what bad things you have done.  He knows about them, and he’s ready to forgive you for your wrongdoings.  Yes, even THAT.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

He loved us so much, that He sent His son to be born on this Earth in a lowly manger.  But see, this little babe who grew up to be a man wasn’t just any man.  He was God in a human’s body, and therefore he was without sin.

Jesus came to teach us about our Creator, and to let us know that we can cry out to Him for help, or go to Him with our tears, or our thanks…..anything.  God is not somebody that only the priests and pastors can approach.  Nor is He looking down waiting to punish us every time we do something wrong.

The most amazing part of this is that Jesus came to be a sacrificial lamb….shedding his pure, sinless blood on the cross for our sins.   In doing so, he took away that penalty of death for the sins that we commit.

On the third day, he rose from the grave and ascended into Heaven to sit on God’s right hand side, and to prepare our rooms for us for when we get there.  (to read more about this, see the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Bible, chapters 22-24).

Now, the beauty of all of this is that in order for YOU to get to Heaven, you just need to believe.  You need to believe that Jesus died for you and returned to Heaven where he waits for you.  Your good deeds or your bad deeds won’t determine whether or not you go to Heaven.  That being said, loving Jesus and wanting to follow him will make you WANT to be like him – loving others, forgiving others, being honest and kind…..

But back to what I was saying before – no matter WHAT you have done in the past, God already knows about it.  And He loves you anyway.  Just like when your child misbehaves – you’ll love him or her regardless, right?  That’s the same way our Father in Heaven feels about you.  There’s nothing you can do to make Him stop loving you.  EVER.

So unload your burdens onto Him – his shoulders can handle it, I promise it.  Confess your sins to God and ask for his forgiveness.  The hardest part of it all is forgiving yourself.  Because God has already forgiven you.

So, if you’d like to meet me on the other side of Heaven one day, I invite you to say this prayer (or one like it):

Thank you God, for loving me.  Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sins, and for raising him up to Heaven on the third day.   I am truly sorry for my sins, and I repent of them now.  Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).  I invite Jesus to live in my heart, and to lead me from this day forward.  Please send your Holy Spirit to help me to follow your leading.  I know you have a wonderful plan for me, one far greater than even I could imagine (Jeremiah 29:11).  Thy will be done now and for the rest of my life.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

That’s it, my friends.  That’s all you need to do.  Now, please – go and unburden yourselves by inviting Jesus into your heart if you haven’t already.  What have you got to lose?
