Does God Put Obstacles In Our Way?

Does God put obstacles in our way?

I’m in the midst of frantically cleaning my house right now, but had to take a break to get this out of my head and in writing somewhere.
Does God put obstacles in our way?  I don’t mean in the big decisions (because I believe he does in those instances), but in the small, everyday things.

Take today, for example.  We were all dressed up, ready to get out the door (on time!) for church.  The kids and I were in the car (though the oldest was screaming bloody murder because he needed to go back inside and find a part to his toy and I was responding in a screaming kind of way….oops.

Well, I pressed the power button for my neat little hybrid car and….nothing.  The key light flashed at me, letting me know that I did not have the key in my purse as I had previously believed….because I ALWAYS leave it in my purse.
Now, of course, hubby is out on one of his Sunday-morning metal detecting adventures, as is the norm, while this is going down.
I returned inside the house and searched all of the logical (and some of the not-so-logical) places for said key.  Nothing.  Nada.  Zip.  Zilch.

It STILL hasn’t turned up.  And this is not the first time in recent months that something similar has happened on our way to church.

So is it just because our house is in a state of chaos (and I have been less-than-motivated to pick up the wreckage of late)?  Or is God placing an obstacle in our way for this particular day because He has a bigger plan?  Does he deal in the small, everyday details like this?

By the way, after I vented (not so nicely) to my husband over the phone (more like raged, let’s be honest), I received a call from my sweet mother-in-law.  Turns out hubby called in reinforcements for me.   (This also benefits him, of course, because now I’m not cranky with him for not being here.)

What do you think?  Have you ever wondered this?  I’d love to hear your side!

I’m off to clean like crazy again….have a blessed Sunday, and a safe July 4th weekend!

  1. While I do not think He places them there I do believe He allows things to happen and for a reason which we may not always know. I know of people who were held up for reasons such as yours only to learn if they had not been they might have been involved in a wreck. I also think He allows obstacles to build our character and trust in Him.

    Peace, <><

  2. I've been wondering the same thing lately and hoping for some clarity and peace about things. *sigh*
