I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Water is one of the best “toys” for kids! Especially cranky ones. I know with this hot weather that we’ve been having lately, we’ve all been a bit crankier than normal.
Over the weekend hubby and I decided that it was time to move the playhouse to a more kid-friendly area. (It was over these cement blocks, and it just made me nervous). Just a few days before I had to knock the roof off of it because there was a wasp nest and an ever-present Mama wasp inside the house. There were about a million spiders inside there, too and the whole darn thing was just in need of a good cleaning.
As I started dragging the playhouse closer to the hose, my almost-5-year-old starts interrogating me. After I explained that I needed to hose off the house, he volunteered to help. At first I told him no, I would be taking care of it (sometimes “helping” isn’t all that helpful, ya’ know?). At that moment, the light bulb went on, and I saw this for the opportunity that it was – a little bit of Mommy time. (well, except for the fact that I still had to occupy the little one).
We traded the regular clothes for a bathing suit, and he very happily got to work. Let me tell you, this occupied him for a loooooong time. And I ended up with a clean playhouse and a little bit of a breather. Nice!
Do you have a story about how water play saved the day? I’d love to hear about it. You can either leave it as a comment, or if you have a blog, write a post about it and link up in the Linky below.
