Seventh Generation Cleaning kit – Review & Giveaway –CLOSED

I contacted Seventh Generation in the hopes of reviewing their products and doing a giveaway. They very graciously accepted and
provided me with an amazing cleaning kit that you can win too!

We have people in the house that are very sensitive to/allergic to strongly scented products, perfumes, etc. (the throat-closing-up kind of sensitivity), so I chose the Free & Clear cleaning kit that is free of dyes, perfumes, etc. for my review/giveaway.

Here is what the kit included:

  • Disinfecting Multi-Surface
  • Disinfecting Bathroom
  • Disinfecting Wipes – 35 ct.
  • Laundry Detergent – F&C 32 oz
  • Liquid Fabric Softener – F&C 40 oz
  • Dish liquid
  • All- Purpose Cleaner
  • Automatic Dishwasher Pacs
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Natural Paper Towels
  • Seventh Gen Recycled Bag

The warning I was given was:
“Please note: The Disinfectants have Thymol scent (from Thyme oil). These are NOT considered free and clear, but they are great for immune-depressed households or those with small children, hence why I’ve included them here. The scent dissipates quickly.”

I was really excited when I received these via UPS and I couldn’t wait to get started. Having a baby and a preschooler in the house, I feel that it’s especially important to refrain from using cleaners with chemicals as much as possible.

The true test is my husband…..if he reacts to the product we can’t use it in the house.

My Two Cents: Of all of the products, I’d have to say that my favorites were the multi-surface cleaner and the automatic dishwasher packs. I loved that the dishes didn’t have that chlorinated smell to them after they came out of the dishwasher.

I had started using my steam-cleaner a while back, which supposedly can be used without a separate floor cleaner. This had appealed to me since I have a little one that was crawling and both kids like to lay on the floor. WELL, I decided to use the steam-cleaner in conjunction with the multi-surface cleaner and it was NOTICEABLY cleaner (oops!).

I cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen with the products that had the lemongrass & thyme-oil in them before my husband got home. The scent dissipated very quickly in the kitchen as promised, but it lingered in the bathroom. I’ll have to say that I’m not a HUGE fan of the scent (I think I like the lemongrass part of it, but not the thyme). It doesn’t cause my husband to choke up, but he’s not a fan of it either. His comment is that it “smells like mouthwash”. That much being said, the scent is preferable to the chemically smells from other cleaners.

The bathroom cleaner bottle says that you don’t have to scrub/rinse afterward. I think that must mean for normal people’s bathrooms – not ones like ours where we have hard-water/rust stains. I used the bathroom cleaner in the toilet too (going to have to get myself some of their toilet cleaner!). It worked pretty well, but the one drawback is that our toilet seat is wooden (which I hate – would LOVE to have a “normal” toilet seat), and I couldn’t use the bathroom cleaner on it as it is only approved for non-porous surfaces.

Update: my 4-year-old would like me to include that he does not love the Recycled Paper Towels because they rip too easily when they are wet.  (Okay sweetie, I did as you asked.  Now please stop spilling things all over the house and you won’t have to use them.  Okay??!!)

Overall I was happy with these products and will continue to use them in our house. Here’s my special note/disclaimer: I contacted the company for a product review/giveaway. Although they provided me with free samples, the opinions stated here are my own. I was not offered any compensation for my opinion. In fact, Seventh Generation specifically stated that

“…we also encourage and expect you to write honestly about your experience: good, bad or indifferent. As a blogger, you have no obligation to endorse Seventh Generation or our products even if we provide them for your review.”

And that’s what I did. ‘Nuff said?
